The core driving force behind the strong flavor of "passing" and "busy" New Year

On December 4 last year, the "Spring Festival - Chinese People's Social Practice in Celebrating the Traditional New Year" was successfully included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. While we are delighted, we should also think about how to make the New Year's atmosphere stronger in the fast-paced modern life? In my opinion, as the subtitle of "Chinese people's social practice in celebrating the traditional New Year" shows, social practice - "over" and "busy" is the core driving force of the strong flavor of the year. The Spring Festival is a product of agricultural civilization, closely related to the sun, moon, stars, natural cycle, seasonal changes, and the heavenly stems and earthly branches. It is a productive and social adaptation of people to the natural changes of heaven and earth, as well as an artistic adaptation. Therefore, the Spring Festival not only embodies people's understanding of all things, but also carries their beautiful expectations for their families and society. In short, the older generation that people often think about today, and the strong taste of childhood, all bear the Chinese view of nature and life, showing how people become people and how society is social ethics, and showing the creativity and vitality of artistic communication between people and all things in the world and others. Therefore, whether it is about "celebrating the Chinese New Year" or "celebrating the Spring Festival", emphasizing action, time and space crossing, and self-renewal is the key to the strong flavor of the New Year. 'Passing' has two meanings. Firstly, people, all things in heaven and earth, and society accumulate energy together, climb hills and overcome obstacles, bid farewell to the old and welcome the new. Secondly, in order to climb hills and overcome obstacles, as the main body of action and the core of the Spring Festival, one must work hard to smoothly bid farewell to the old and welcome the new. In this sense, 'busy' is the true essence of the traditional New Year. In rural slang, another daily expression for "New Year" is "busy New Year". Only because of busyness can individuals feel fulfilled, full, and abundant, and the current New Year's atmosphere that people are thinking about can reverse wrap people's hearts, making them grateful and full of joy. Of course, the word 'busy' in 'busy year' has multiple meanings. Firstly, it is different from the production labor of "hoeing rice at noon on a spring plowing and autumn harvesting day" and "hoeing back with the moon and lotus" in the fields. Instead, it is a busy process of artistic transformation, creation, communication, and consumption of the fruits of hard work inside and outside the house. Secondly, in terms of a family, everyone's busy schedule varies. My mother is busy with Paper Cuttings and window decorations, sewing shoes, hats, clothes and trousers for the whole family, preparing delicious food, and preparing New Year greetings for relatives and friends. My father was busy sweeping and cleaning the dust, rushing to the market to buy New Year's goods, slaughtering chickens and sheep, respectfully sending off the Kitchen God, and worshipping ancestors. Grandparents have long pondered how much New Year's money to give their grandchildren. The children surrounding the adults are also pondering what new clothes to wear, what delicious food to eat, and what kind of gifts to receive. These busyness are not just for a day or two, but mostly related to the entire Spring Festival. Chinese New Year is a busy and fastidious time. My hometown is a small mountain village called Huaishudi in Jiange County, northern Sichuan. I remember when I was eleven or twelve years old, every year after the Spring Festival, my brothers and sisters had to go to battle together and push the mill for several days. The tofu, rice jelly and rice dumpling to be eaten during the Spring Festival are all made by ourselves and our family, step by step. On New Year's Eve, I stayed up until midnight and then went to the water well in the village outside the courtyard with my fellow apprentice to grab the first load of water for the Lunar New Year. I heard that water at this moment symbolizes good luck and indicates the prosperity of the family. On the fifth day of the first lunar month, which is also known as the "New Year of the Ox", my mother cooked food for the domesticated oxen early in the morning. These scenes are still vivid in my memory. Only through hard work can there be rewards, sweetness, and longing. Understanding these things, in the years since I left my hometown, every Spring Festival, no matter where I am, using modern communication tools such as SMS, email, WeChat, etc., to send New Year greetings to relatives and friends has become the norm of my New Year's life. Of course, I also remember the elderly saying, "No matter how busy you are, you have to take a day off on the first day of the Lunar New Year, otherwise you will end up being busy all year and be busy for the rest of your life." Obviously, this "rest" on the first day of the Lunar New Year is not out of "idleness", but rather confirms the long-term and continuous nature of "busyness", proves the true nature of "busyness" in festivals, life, and life, and how to effectively and orderly "busyness". So, the significance of the traditional New Year is to participate, contribute, and share within one's physical capacity. It is the result of the joint efforts of men, women, children, relatives, and neighbors, and is an active interaction and negotiation with all things. For everyone, the Lunar New Year is not about enjoying the benefits, but about taking on responsibilities, duties, and obligations. (New Society)
