On January 22, 2025, Liu Jinsong, Director General of the Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with Thai Ambassador to China Han Cancai and Myanmar Ambassador to China Ding Pingrui respectively to express concerns and work together to combat cross-border electronic fraud. Liu stated that there have been a series of malicious cases of electronic fraud in the Thai Myanmar border area recently, threatening and harming the vital interests of citizens of China and other countries. This type of crime has the characteristics of "mafia+high-tech+industrialization+cross-border". We hope that Thailand and Myanmar will attach great importance to it, take responsibility, take strong measures to resolutely crack down on it, safeguard the safety of people's lives and property, and never allow criminals to go unpunished. China is willing to strengthen bilateral and multilateral law enforcement cooperation with ASEAN countries, create a safe environment for people of all countries to secure exchanges, and maintain a good order in exchanges and cooperation among neighboring countries, including normal tourism and cultural activities. The ambassadors of Thailand and Myanmar to China attach great importance to China's concerns and are deeply saddened by the related heinous cases. They believe that the harm of electronic fraud is serious, and their governments' policies are to resolutely crack down on it, address both the symptoms and root causes, and cooperate internationally. We will spare no effort to rescue trapped individuals, severely punish criminal groups in accordance with the law, strengthen border control and supervision of key areas, establish long-term mechanisms, and eradicate the breeding ground for cross-border crimes.
