"Never drink salt water again!" The life of villagers in Boteti area of Botswana ushered in a huge change. During the 18 month construction period, Botswana Boteti Water Supply Project contracted by China Civil Engineering Group Botswana Co., Ltd. will be officially opened to water in the second half of 2023, bringing clean tap water to the local area and benefiting about 30000 villagers. Tebalo, a villager of Mokobadane village in the region, said that before that, they mainly used local salt water for drinking, cooking and bathing. "Long term use of this salt water is not good for our health, but we have no other choice." Boteti is located in the middle of Botswana, more than 100 kilometers from Makadikadi salt marsh in the north, and close to the Orapa diamond mine in the east, lacking in fresh water resources. According to the staff of Botswana Water Company, the salt content of local groundwater exceeds the standard and has peculiar smell. Due to the vast territory of the region, scattered villagers' residences, and large project investments, water supply projects have only been put on the agenda in recent years. The Boteti Water Supply Project involves the construction of the main water supply project and supporting facilities, including the laying of 184 kilometers of water supply pipelines, the construction of 4 booster pump stations, the construction and installation of 10 high-level water tanks, the construction of 3 concrete reservoirs, and the design and construction of a water treatment plant. In addition, it also includes two administrative office buildings, 10 employee apartments, and supporting projects such as electricity, machinery, and remote sensing. According to the project executive manager Yang Weimin, the daily water treatment capacity of the project is currently 4000 cubic meters, which can meet the water needs of more than 30000 people. Since its official use, it has provided a total of 140000 cubic meters of clean tap water to the region. When it comes to this project, Bomgal Jian, the chairman of the village development committee of Mokobadane Village, speaks highly of it. He said, "The Chinese construction company has brought us a particularly good project. Now the water is so good and life is much more convenient. Everyone in the village is very grateful." At the Tebalo house, the newly installed faucet is located in a corner of the yard. When the faucet is turned on, clear tap water flows continuously. The water used to be salty, but now it's sweet! "He exclaimed excitedly. Yang Weimin introduced that the launch and completion of the project have indirectly driven the local economic and social development. At the peak of the project, about 600 people were employed locally, which trained many technical talents for Botswana and increased local employment. In addition, the construction materials required for the project, as well as the accommodation and catering for workers, have all driven the local economic development. The driver Peter, who works for this water supply project, is a local employee and currently earns over 5300 Pula per month (approximately 13.75 Pula per US dollar). He said, "The arrival of Chinese companies not only comprehensively improves the quality of our domestic water, but also increases our income level
