NATO's new military corridor put into use

2024-11-11

According to the "Army Technology" website in early November, the United States recently transported hundreds of armored vehicles by sea to the ports of Frissinen and Emshaven in the Netherlands. Subsequently, these armored vehicles and accessories were packed into over 2000 containers and transported to Poland and other countries through newly established military corridors in Germany, the Netherlands, and Poland. This is the first large-scale operation of the military corridor. At the end of January this year, Germany, the Netherlands, and Poland signed a statement of intent to establish a military corridor that facilitates the movement of military personnel and supplies, allowing NATO's eastern wing forces to quickly receive reinforcements and supplies. Specifically, the three countries are attempting to address infrastructure issues such as roads and bridges, simplify the process of cross-border transportation of arms and other dangerous goods, and seek solutions that prioritize military railway transportation over conventional civilian transportation. NATO officials pointed out that establishing a military transportation corridor spanning Western and Central Europe among NATO member states is a significant logistical vision. As the leading coordinating country of this military corridor, the Netherlands has a superior geographical location and a developed port network, serving as the "European gateway" connecting Europe with other regions around the world. The above-mentioned ports in the Netherlands are important nodes in this military corridor, which can coordinate supply lines to the east wing for NATO partners. According to reports, the Netherlands had previously promised to assist the US military in carrying out this military maneuver mission. It is worth noting that this is the first large-scale shipment of foreign military supplies to the port of Emshaven in the Netherlands. According to a press release released by the Netherlands, the transportation of this batch of armored vehicles will last from October 30th to November 20th, taking a total of about 3 weeks. Part of the armored vehicles will be transported from the port of Emshaven to Germany under the escort of the Royal Dutch Constabulary. No further information has been disclosed by foreign media regarding the detailed information of this military mobile mission and how Polish troops use these armored vehicles. Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, NATO has continuously increased its military deployment in Eastern Europe, and has repeatedly rehearsed how to quickly reach the eastern wing of the alliance when threats occur. The deployment of hundreds of armored vehicles to Poland reflects Poland's importance in NATO's eastern wing layout. In recent years, Poland has become a major hub for NATO to deliver weapons to Ukraine, with increasing geopolitical security and military value. NATO, led by the United States, is pushing for relevant military deployments under the pretext of geopolitical crises, continuously strengthening its military presence in Poland, with the intention of controlling and utilizing Poland through military and security means, thereby further controlling European security. This military operation also reflects Poland's rapid enhancement of its military strength, preparing for the US to shift its strategic focus to the Asia Pacific region in the medium to long term. To this end, Poland is seeking permission from the United States to manufacture more equipment domestically, strengthen NATO's military infrastructure construction, and respond to possible future conflicts.
