According to a recent report by Kyodo News, Japanese officials said that the defense ministers of Japan, the United Kingdom, and Italy unanimously agreed on the 19th to accelerate the joint development plan for the next generation fighter jet. The Japanese Ministry of Defense stated that at a meeting held in Naples, southern Italy, the defense ministers of the three countries also confirmed that the first contract between the public and private sectors will be signed as early as next year, with the goal of deploying this fighter jet before 2035. Japanese Defense Minister Motonari Nakatani met with British Defense Minister John Healy and Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto during the G7 Defense Ministers' Meeting. The international organization responsible for managing the joint development project of the above-mentioned fighter jets will be led by a Japanese person. Nakatani Motonari stated after the meeting that he intends to appoint former Japanese defense official in charge of international affairs, Masanobu Okamoto, to the position. According to reports, the organization is called the Global Air Operations Planning International Government Organization (GIGO) and is expected to be established in the UK later this year.
