A new pair of giant pandas gifted by the central government to Hong Kong will arrive on September 26th. The Hong Kong Jockey Club (Jockey Club) announced on the 24th that it has approved a donation of over HKD 121 million to support the enhancement of the ecological facilities of the "Giant Panda Tour" and the "Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures Pavilion" at the Hong Kong Ocean Park. The improvement of facilities includes snow systems and landscape restoration, providing a high-quality, safe, age appropriate, and more ecologically friendly living environment for giant pandas in the park. The donation will also be used to expand the 'Giant Panda Journey' and promote community education programs, donating students from low-income families to visit giant pandas in the park. The picture shows the giant panda "Lele" enjoying lunch in the "Giant Panda Journey" at the Ocean Park. The Hong Kong Jockey Club has always been committed to promoting sustainable development in Hong Kong, protecting local biodiversity, and raising public awareness of environmental and ecological protection. The Hong Kong Jockey Club hopes to enhance and expand the facilities of the Ocean Park, as well as carry out a series of educational activities, to enable the general public, especially the younger generation, to learn to cherish nature and the "national treasure" giant panda. The Ocean Park, which opened in 1977, was supported by donations from the Hong Kong Jockey Club for its construction and early operation. In 1998, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charitable Trust donated funds to build the "Hong Kong Jockey Club Giant Panda Park" as a residence for the Hong Kong giant pandas "Anan" and "Jiajia" gifted by the central government. After renovation and expansion in 2012, the park was renamed as the "Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures Museum", becoming a habitat for giant pandas and two "national treasures" Sichuan snub nosed monkeys, "Lele" and "Tiger and Tiger". Currently, two "national treasures" Sichuan snub nosed monkeys, "Lele" and "Qiqi", are residing at the "Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures Hall". (New Society)
