The two-day "2024 Global Legal and Sustainable Wood Industry Summit Forum" opened in Macau on the 11th, with the theme of "Building a Reliable and Efficient Global Wood Industry Supply Chain Together". It is reported that this forum includes a summit forum, four professional sub forums, and a business docking meeting, focusing on the deep integration of the entire industry chain, covering comprehensive docking of upstream resources and downstream markets. The forum attracted approximately 700 guests from over 40 countries and regions, including international organizations, government officials from various countries, as well as representatives from wood industry associations and businesses. The forum also released the Global Wood Index (GTI) and blockchain technology research results supported by the Macao SAR Government's Investment Promotion Bureau and participated by Macao's higher education institutions. The GTI platform has been launched, adding 3 pilot countries and 2 industry indices, and providing training and business integration services. In addition, the Wood Traceability System (BTTS) based on blockchain technology has been successfully tested and will focus on technological upgrades and standard system construction in the future, further promoting international cooperation and innovation. The opening ceremony was presided over by the Chief Executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region, He Yicheng, the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macau, Zheng Xincong, the Acting Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macau, Sun Xiangyang, as well as ministerial level officials from the Central African Republic, the Republic of Fiji, the Republic of Congo, and Peru. The Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macau SAR Government, Li Weinong, stated in his speech that the "Global Summit on Legitimate and Sustainable Wood Industry", as the first international forestry and wood industry conference introduced to Macau, is an important component of the International Tropical Timber Organization's efforts to promote the establishment of legal and sustainable supply chains. The Executive Director of the International Tropical Timber Organization, Shem Satkuru, delivered a video message calling on all sectors to support the construction and improvement of a global sustainable wood supply chain during challenging and uncertain times. This forum is jointly organized by the International Tropical Timber Organization and the Macao SAR Government's Investment Promotion Bureau.
