Hong Kong Holds a Ceremony to Commemorate the Victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression

The Hong Kong SAR government held an official ceremony in the Memorial Garden of the Hong Kong General Assembly Hall on the 3rd to commemorate the victory of the Chinese people in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam and senior government officials attended the ceremony. At around 8 o'clock in the morning of that day, the flag raising team escorted the national flag and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region flag into the venue. As the national anthem was played, the national flag and regional flag slowly rose and fluttered in the wind under the attention of all attendees. Afterwards, the police rifle honor guard fired guns to pay tribute to the martyrs, and all attendees observed a moment of silence. Li Jiachao led representatives from all walks of life to bow and pay tribute to the martyrs. Other participants at the ceremony included Liang Zhenying, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Liu Guangyuan, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Li Jiangzhou, Deputy Director of the Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for the Maintenance of National Security, Cui Jianchun, Special Commissioner of the Office of the Special Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Major General Tan Zhiwei, Deputy Commander of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in Hong Kong. In 2014, the Seventh Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Twelfth National People's Congress decided to designate September 3 as the anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, and the country will hold commemorative activities on September 3 every year. The Hong Kong SAR government has held corresponding official commemorative activities in Hong Kong since that year. (New Society)
