Recently, the "2024 Greater Bay Area Low Carbon Metallurgy and Advanced Metal Materials Technology Exchange Conference" co hosted by the China Society of Metals and Guangdong University of Technology was grandly opened in Huadu District, Guangzhou. Wang Xinjiang, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Chinese Society of Metals, presided over the opening ceremony of the conference and read out a congratulatory letter from Academician Yin Ruiyu of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Yin Ruiyu highly praised the significance of the conference in his congratulatory letter, emphasizing the need to promote the high-end, green, and intelligent development of the steel industry through technological innovation, and to transform steel production capacity into new quality productivity. Gan Yong, an academician of the CAE Member, said in a video address that the green upgrading of the steel industry is a landmark practice to achieve the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation. Guangdong University of Technology has established a low-carbon metallurgical engineering innovation cross research institute, which is committed to carrying out innovative research in the low-carbon metallurgy and high-performance metal material industry chain, and is an innovative measure for high-end, green and intelligent practice of the steel industry. This conference also invited many experts, scholars, and business representatives to give special presentations, covering topics such as green catalytic materials and equipment, green and low-carbon development of China's steel industry, new low-carbon ironmaking processes, green intelligent electric arc furnace steelmaking, and low-carbon metallurgical technology development. It brought a wonderful academic feast to the participants. This conference also organized academician salon meetings, sub venue reports on hydrogen metallurgy, low-carbon electric furnaces, and advanced green steel materials. Many experts and scholars from universities, research institutes, and enterprises were invited to have in-depth exchanges and discussions. Through ideological collision and integration, the wisdom and strength of the steel industry and advanced metal materials were truly consolidated. It is understood that currently, the steel metallurgy industry and the metal materials sector are facing a strong demand for green and low-carbon, technological innovation, and industrial upgrading. In terms of green finance, Huadu, as the core area of the national level green finance reform and innovation pilot zone, has ranked first for four consecutive times in the national evaluation, promoting Guangzhou's green finance development to be at the forefront of the country. The carbon quota trading volume and amount of Guangzhou Carbon Emission Trading Center have consistently ranked first among all pilot carbon markets. (New Society)
