On the 28th, the Innovation and Technology Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government held a signing ceremony for the "Industry University Research 1+Plan", announcing the first 24 funding projects of the "Industry University Research 1+Plan" and signing a memorandum with project representatives, hoping to stimulate industry university research cooperation, promote the transformation of scientific research achievements and industrial development from 1 to N, and accelerate the development of new quality productivity in Hong Kong. In the first round of the plan, a total of 94 applications were received, and in the end, 24 projects were recommended for funding by the "Industry University Research 1+Plan" supervisory committee. The total funding for the first 24 projects exceeds HKD 1 billion, covering fields such as health and pharmaceutical science, new materials and energy, artificial intelligence and robotics, electrical and electronic engineering, advanced manufacturing, and traditional Chinese medicine. The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Sun Dong, stated that the government is committed to strengthening the development of midstream and downstream industries, focusing on life and health technology, artificial intelligence and data science, as well as new energy and advanced manufacturing industries. In the past two years, the government has successfully promoted over 100 key technology enterprises to settle in Hong Kong or expand their businesses in Hong Kong. He hopes that the 24 funded projects can benefit Hong Kong's innovation ecosystem and drive the birth of "unicorn" enterprises. The "Industry University Research 1+Plan" was officially launched by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in October 2023, aiming to unleash the potential of local universities to transform and commercialize scientific research achievements, and promote cooperation among the government, industry, universities, and the research community. The plan has received a funding of 10 billion yuan, providing paired funding for no less than 100 research and development teams from universities sponsored by the Education Grants Committee of the University of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Each approved project can receive funding ranging from 10 million to 100 million yuan. (Lai Xin She)
