2024-04-22

In early spring in Lingnan, flowers bloom in Suicheng. In this season of warm spring, two Uruguayan female artists and friends from all over the world gathered together to engage in a cultural exchange about art and the power of women. On the evening of April 19th, the "Treasure" series of activities hosted by the Consulate General of Uruguay in Guangzhou were once again launched. "Treasure: Flower of the East Coast" brought an artistic feast to people on Shamian Island in Guangzhou. Uruguay is located on the east bank of the Uruguay River and the La Plata River in Latin America. It is a country with a land area of 176200 square kilometers and a total population of less than 3.5 million. But at the same time, Uruguay is also a country characterized by culture, art, literature, and knowledge production. Here, there are many talented people who continue to carry forward our country's traditions in many fields, and have left a strong mark in the international community. 2023 marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uruguay (hereinafter referred to as "China Ukraine"), and also a year when China and Uruguay have elevated their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Although the two countries are far apart from each other, their bilateral relations have always been stable and developing healthily. This has also opened the door for cultural and artistic exchanges between the two countries, allowing the "East Coast Flower" from afar to bloom in China and bringing China's artistic treasures to the world. Nowadays, art exchanges between China and Ukraine continue to deepen and advance. At the event venue (photo/news agency), the Uruguayan Consul General in Guangzhou, Facundo Fernandez Guerra, Uruguayan poet and writer Silvia Guerra, Uruguayan painter Cindy Cal, as well as officials from the Consulates General of Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and Portugal in Guangzhou and figures from both domestic and foreign cultural and artistic circles attended the event that night. Everyone gathered here to enjoy the works of Uruguayan female artists, including Silvia Gra's work "Strange Flowers and Plants: A Hidden Country", Cindy Carr's painting exhibition "Fiori 366, Uruguay and China", and Sinai's photography exhibition "The Traveler of Flowers". In his speech, Uruguayan Consul General in Guangzhou, Fakundo, stated, "We are committed to spreading, showcasing, and promoting Uruguay's cultural heritage, which is also our commitment to everyone. We firmly believe that enhancing cultural interaction with the Chinese people and local institutions, and enhancing mutual understanding, are the fundamental pillars of Uruguay's bilateral relations with China." "Strange Flowers and Plants: A Hidden Country" is a poetry collection compiled by 55 Uruguayan female poets, co written by Silvia Gra and American writer Jesse Lee Kecheval. Collaboration completed. This poetry collection spans the long river of history from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century, showcasing the silently cultivated achievements of several generations of women in literature and art. It connects female authors and works from different eras and different parts of Uruguay to achieve dialogue, forming new and powerful female intellectuals
