China provides food aid to Afghan people through the World Food Program

The office of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Afghanistan said on the 17th that it had received US $2 million in emergency food aid from the Chinese government, which will be distributed to 70000 Afghans in succession to alleviate the local food crisis. Liu Xuerong, the project director of the World Food Administration's Afghanistan office, said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency that this batch of aid materials includes wheat flour, yellow peas, vegetable oil, and edible salt, which can meet the needs of 70000 local impoverished people for two months. According to a report released by the World Food Programme's Afghanistan office in June, it is expected that approximately 15.3 million people in Afghanistan will face severe food shortages from May to October this year.
